Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team placed third at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational Saturday. The Eagles finished with 32.0 team points while UW-Whitewater took the team title with 47.0. Grinnell College (Iowa) was second with 43.0. A total of eight teams competed.
The Eagles'
Kimberly Steinert captured the No. 1 singles draw with a 3-0 record. She opened with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Amber Ruofel Shuang of Illinois Wesleyan University in the first round before a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lily Schoeck of Augustana College (Ill.) in the semifinals. Steinert won the title with a 7-5, 7-6 victory over Grinnell's (Iowa) Sabrina Tang.
In the No. 2 singles draw, UWL's
Tasha Bailey placed second overall. She defeated Michaela Magee of Augustana (Ill.) in her opening match (6-0, 6-1) beore beating Irene Agusti of Grinnell (Iowa) in the semifinals (6-2, 6-3). Bailey dropped the championship match to Cassie Lee of UW-Whitewater (6-4, 6-3).

Avery Nicholson placed seventh in the No. 3 singles draw, finishing 1-2 overall.

Susi Hu placed third in No. 2 with a 2-1 mark. The duo defeated Katelyn Heller/Marissa Hagler of Illinois Wesleyan (8-3) in the first round before falling (8-2) to Ioanna Giannakou/Kalea Martin of Grinnell (Iowa) in the semifinals. Kearney/Hu defeated Grace Rider/Mia Reese of Augustana (Ill.) in the third-place match (8-0).

Kaitlyn Kalinka placed fourth at No. 1 doubles. The duo went 1-2 in the invitational.

Sophia Knigge dropped the consolation final at No. 3 doubles with a 1-2 record.
