Appleton, Wis./Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team opened its 2018-19 season with a 9-0 win at Lawrence University (Wis.) Friday, August 31 before placing third at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational Saturday, September 1.
Versus Lawrence (Wis.), UWL swept the six singles matches in straight sets with wins by
Kimberly Steinert (No. 1),
Sadie Spahn (No. 2),
Hayley Clope (No. 3),
Shira Busch (No. 4),
Madeline Bahr (No. 5) and
Lauren Witt (No. 6). In doubles play, Spahn/Clope (No. 1), Steinert/
Alyssa Boyer (No. 2) and Busch/
Kaitlyn Kalinka (No. 3) earned victories.

UWL totaled 31.0 team points at the UW-Whitewater Invitational. A total of eight teams competed. Spahn/Clope captured the No. 1 doubles title with an 8-3 victory over Angelica Emmanouil/Samantha Ramsey of Carthage College (Wis.).
Busch/Kalinka placed second at No. 2 doubles Saturday while
Lauren Witt/
Madeline Bahr went 0-2 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Boyer placed second at the No. 3 with a 2-1 record. Steinert went 1-1 in the No. 1 singles while
Maura Andersen placed fourth at No. 2 singles with a 1-2 record.
UWL returns to action Saturday, September 8 hosting Winona State University (Minn.) at 9 a.m. and UW-Stevens Point at 3 p.m.
