In singles play at the Midwest Open, Fortney advanced to the quarterfinals in the "B" Draw. He went 3-1, opening with a victory (6-3, 6-1) over Aadityaa Juniwal of Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). Fortney defeated (6-1, 6-4) Pranav Kannan of MSOE (Wis.) in the second round and earned the win (6-3, 6-0) over Anshul Satav of Grinnell College (Iowa) in the third round. He lost (6-4, 6-1) to Gerado Ramirez Mainou of Luther College (Iowa) in the quarterfinals.
