La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has named Jake Landry as an assistant coach for the Eagles' football team.  Landry will serve as UWL's offensive coordinator and work in the intercollegiate athletics department sports performance center.

"I can't tell you how excited I am to be joining the La Crosse community and become apart of such a great University," said Landry.  "I look forward to becoming apart of a new era of football with Coach Schmidt." 

Landry has worked as an assistant coach at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb the last three seasons, including the last two as a graduate assistant coach.  After serving as an intern with the Huskies' quarterbacks in 2013, Landry worked with the NIU linebackers in 2014.  He returned to coaching the quarterbacks in 2015. 

"Jake Landry is the right man for this job," said first-year UWL head coach Mike Schmidt.  "I am at a loss for words to describe my excitement.  We will do anything we can to make him successful.  He is a very intelligent person and has a great coaching pedigree.  I absolutely love his competitiveness."

NIU won the Mid-American Conference (MAC) West title and played in a bowl game all three years (2013-15) while Landry was an assistant coach.  The Huskies captured the MAC Championship game in 2014 with a 51-17 victory over Bowling Green State University (Ohio).  NIU played in the 2013 and 2015 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl and in the 2014 Boca Raton Bowl. 

The Huskies averaged 31.1 points and 398.5 yards of offense (190.1 rushing; 208.4 passing) per game in 2015.  NIU's quarterbacks finished 240-of-404 passing (59.4%) for 2,918 yards with 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.  In 2013, Landry assisted NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch in finishing third for the Heisman Memorial Trophy.  Lynch was 253-of-404 (62.6%) passing for 2,892 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions.  He also rushed for a team-high 1,920 yards (6.6 average per attempt) with 23 touchdowns.  Lynch was a 2013 Associated Press (AP) First Team All-America and selected the MAC Most Valuable Player.  NIU averaged 39.6 points and 519.8 yards (297.2 rushing; 222.6 passing) in 2013. 

Prior to coaching at NIU, Landry spent two seasons as the wide receivers coach at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.  The Bulldogs won two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division titles while finishing 21-5 overall. 

A four-year letterwinner at the University of North Dakota, Landry started at quarterback and served as team captain in 2009 and 2010.  He earned his bachelor's degree in communications from North Dakota in 2011 and his master's of education from Minnesota-Duluth in 2015.
