34th Annual Gershon/McLellan Invitational ResultsLa Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics squad captured the 34th Annual Gershon/McLellan Invitational Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles won their sixth straight Gershon/McLellan title with a team score of 186.425. UW-L has won 15 Gershon/McLellan Invitationals in school history.
Winona State University (Minn.) placed second (184.250) Friday while UW-Stout was third (177.675) and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) was fourth (175.100).
The Eagles scored 46.350 on the vault; 47.150 on the uneven parallel bars; 46.275 on the balance beam and 46.650 on the floor exercise.
UW-L gymnasts tied for individual titles in three events Friday.
Carly Kiesow and
Amy Enright each scored a 9.625 on the bars to share the title. On the floor,
Elsa Spitzmueller and
Kelsi Vomacka shared the top spot, each scoring a 9.550. The beam also had a pair of Eagles sharing the win, with a score of 9.400 from both
Rachel Riesterer and
Samantha Wiekamp.
Enright was the all-around champion (37.800). In addition to her title on bars, she was second on floor (9.425), fourth on vault (9.500) and fifth on beam (9.250). Wiekamp finished second in the all-around with a score of 36.625.
Other top individual finishes for UW-L included
Lauren Wilson, who finished third on bars (9.550), with Riesterer fourth (9.375).
Ali Berry was sixth on beam (9.225).
UW-L returns to action Friday, February 6 at the UW-Stout Invitational in Menomonie starting at 6 p.m.
