UW-La Crosse 185.675, UW-Oshkosh 179.750
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics squad opened its 2014-15 home schedule with a 185.675 to 179.750 victory over UW-Oshkosh Thursday night in Mitchell Hall.
The Eagles scored 45.875 on the vault; 46.575 on the uneven parallel bars; 45.075 on the balance beam and 48.150 on the floor exercise. The score on the floor exercise was the second-best at a home meet in school history.
UW-L captured individual titles in three of the four events.
Nicole Wangler scored 9.400 to win the vault,
Lauren Wilson and
Amy Enright shared the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.575 and
Kelsi Vomacka had a career-high 9.700 to take the title on the floor exercise.
Ali Berry and
Sheree Romesburg each had recorded three top-six finishes Thursday. Berry was second on floor exercise (9.675) and fifth on both the balance beam (9.050) and vault (9.175). Romesburg finished fourth on balance beam (9.125), fifth on floor exercise (9.550), and sixth on vault (9.100)
UW-L's
Elsa Spitzmueller placed in two events. She was third on the floor exercise (9.625) and sixth on balance beam (9.000). Enright, in addition to her title on uneven parallel bars, placed fourth on floor exercise(9.600).
Kendall Westrich was the top finisher for the Eagles on the balance beam, coming in second (9.175).
On the uneven parallel bars,
Samantha Wiekamp placed third (9.500) while
Monique Muehlethaler finished sixth (9.125).
Savana Kettner was fourth on vault (9.200).
UW-L returns to action Friday, January 30 hosting the 34th Annual Gershon/McLellan Invitational at 6 p.m.
