UW-L Captures Gershon/McLellan Invitational

Eagles Sweep Event Finals

UW-L won its third straight Gershon/McLellan Invite.

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics team captured the 31st Annual Gershon/McLellan Invitational Friday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles finished with a team score of 184.425 while Winona State University (Minn.) was second at 181.600.  UW-Stout placed third (180.175) while UW-Eau Claire was fourth (175.875) and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) finished fifth (171.650).

It is UW-L's 12th Gershon/McLellan title and third straight.  The Eagles set a single-season high in team score (184.425) and on the balance beam (47.150).  The team finished with a score of 46.475 on the vault; 45.625 on the uneven parallel bars and 45.175 on the floor exercise.

The Eagles' Morgan Shene finished second in the all-around (36.950) Friday night while also winning the uneven parallel bars (9.425).  She was fifth on the balance beam (9.425).

UW-Stout's Brittany DeZiel took the all-around (37.100).

UW-L's Jenna Swails captured a pair of event finals Friday, taking the vault (9.575) and floor exercise (9.200).

The Eagles' Rachel Budelier won the balance beam (9.600) as the team swept all four event finals.

Other top finishes for UW-L included Jen Andersen tying for second on the balance beam (9.475) while Jamie Shervey and Taylor Cochran tied for third on the uneven parallel bars (9.200).  Cochran was also sixth on the balance beam (9.350).

Katrina Schuch tied for fourth on the vault (9.375) and tied for fifth on the floor exercise (9.100).  The Eagles' Kjirsten Jacobson tied for fifth on the floor exercise (9.100).

UW-L returns to action Friday, February 10 at UW-Oshkosh at 6:30 p.m.
