Relay Sets School Record; Whitson and Howell Win Pole Vault

NCAA Qualifier Results

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field squad hosted a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Qualifier Thursday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  No team scores were recorded.  The Eagles' Erika Whitson and Meaghan Howell tied for first in the pole vault (11-7 3/4) Thursday while UW-L's  4x100-meter relay (46.10) of Jamie Ludwigson, Meg Heafy, Claire Elliott and Maya Vazquez finished first with a school record time.

Other top finishes on the track included Jaime Ludwigson second (14.55) in the 100-meter hurdles and Marissa Mahr third (1:02.50) in the 400-meter hurdles.

Rebecca Schmidt was fourth (12.50) in the 100-meter dash with Heafy fifth (24.94) and Jenna Halvorson ninth (25.52) in the 200-meter dash.

UW-L's Rebecca Scheuermann placed seventh in 800-meter run (2:12.67) and Alyssa Luker eighth (2:13.12). Amy Pawelko finished sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:53.82) while Natalie Powell placed seventh in the 5,000-meter run (19:29.71).

In the field events, Vazquez finished third (19-0 1/2), Bailey Alston fourth (18-7 1/4) and Jena Weigel ninth (17-4 3/4)in the long jump. 

Kayla Ashland tied for seventh (5-2 1/4) in the high jump. 

Along with Whitson and Howell tying for first in the pole vault, UW-L's Summer Tietz finished third (11-1 3/4), Katrina Fuchs fifth (10-8) and Ashley Alme eighth (10-2).

Other top-10 finishes Thursday included Nicole Flackey seventh (164-0) in the hammer throw and Lauren Pugh eighth (101-10) in the javelin. Jasmine Anderson was 10th in the discus (134-11).

UW-L returns to action Thursday, May 23 hosting the NCAA Division III Championships.
