Four Earn Academic All-District® Honors

La Crosse, Wis. - Four University of Wisconsin-La Crosse student-athletes have been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District® Six At-Large Team, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Senior gymnast Tegan Oare of Medina, Minn. (H.S.) and senior swimmer Abby Diehl of Prairie du Sac (H.S.) were voted to the women's at-large team while senior wrestler Adam Sheley of Geneseo, Ill. (H.S.) and junior wrestler Kevin O'Brien of Becker, Minn. (H.S.) were selected to the men's at-large team. 

All four student-athletes now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. 

The Academic All-District® Six Team is comprised of 11 individuals for the women's at-large team and 12 for the men's at-large team and includes National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III student-athletes from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. 

Oare is a exercise sport science pre-professional major with a 3.84 grade point average. She was named the 2012-13 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Co-Scholar-Athlete and selected to the 2012-13 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Scholar All-America Team. A three-year team captain, Oare is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. She is a member of UW-L's Dean's List. 

A member of UW-L's Physicians Assistant Club and Physical Therapy Club, Oare is a national certified Emergency Medical Technician. She has served as a volunteer for Steppin' Out in Pink, Special Education Bowling, Girls Scouts, Boys and Girls Club and Kids Night Out. 

Oare earned 2013 NCGA First Team All-America honors with a sixth-place finish on the floor exercise. She also earned NCGA First Team All-America recognition in 2012 after finishing tied for third on the vault. Oare was a 2011 NCGA Second Team All-America selection with a 12th-place finish on the vault. 

Diehl is a community health education major with a 3.72 grade point average. She was named a 2012-13 WIAC Tri-Scholar-Athlete. Diehl is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor and the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-Academic Team. She is also a member of UW-L's Dean's List as well as the Eta Sigma Gama and Golden Key Honor Societies.  

A member of UW-L's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Diehl was a member of UW-L's conference winning 400 and 800 freestyle relays in 2013. She also placed second individually in the 100 freestyle at this year's conference championships. Diehl won 11 career WIAC titles (two individual; nine relay). Individually, she won the 200 freestyle in 2012 and 200 backstroke in 2011. 

Diehl was a two-year team captain for the Eagles and earned the 2010-11 Most Improved Award. She earned seven career NCAA Division III All-America honors in relays. 

Sheley, a broad field social studies education major with a 3.84 grade point average, earned his second straight Capital One Academic All-District® At-Large selection. He was named the 2012-13 WIAC Wrestling Scholar-Athlete. Sheley is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Academic Team. He is also on UW-L's Dean's List.

He earned his third career NCAA Division III All-America honor in 2013, capturing the 141-pound national title with a 4-0 record. Sheley was fifth in 2011 and sixth in 2012 at 133-pounds. Named the 2012-13 WIAC Co-Wrestler of the Year, Sheley finished the year with a 26-2 overall record. 

Finishing 97-15 in his career, Sheley was selected the WIAC Wrestler of the Meet at the 2013 league championships. He won the 133-pound conference title in 2011 and 2012. 

O'Brien is an economics major with a 3.60 grade point average, earning 2012-13 NWCA Division III Scholar-Award honors. He finished the season with a 19-5 overall record, earning his second career NCAA Division III All-America honor with a fifth-place finish at 174-pounds at the national championships. O'Brien, who earned All-America honors with a fourth-place finish at 165-pounds in 2011-12, went 4-2 at this year's national meet. 

He captured the 174-pound title at the 2013 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional with a 3-0 record. O'Brien placed second at the 2013 Pete Willson Wheaton College (Ill.) Invitational and was selected to the 2012-13 All-WIAC First Team. He won the conference title at 165-pounds in 2011-12. 

The at-large teams include the sports of women's bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling. 

In order to be eligible for the Academic All-America® program, nominees must: be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials; have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergrad and graduate work; have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and completed at least one calendar year at the institution; and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
