Men's Track & Field Team Wins Converse Invite

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team captured the UW-Whitewater Converse Invitational Friday night.  The Eagles finished with 168.0 team points while UW-Whitewater was second with 129.0 and North Central College (Ill.) third with 120.5.  UW-Oshkosh placed fourth (91.5) followed by Augustana College, Ill. (75.0), the University of Chicago, Ill. (23.0) and Loras College, Iowa (18.0).

Four athletes captured individual events for UW-L Friday, including three in the field events.  Jeremiah Burish won the pole vault (15-3 1/2) while Isaac Vazquez captured the triple jump (48-0 3/4) and Andy Novak took the shot put (57-0 3/4).

On the track, Sean Royer won the 800-meter run (1:54.65).

Other top finishes for the field events included Jeffrey Hill second (15-3 1/2), Ryan Klister third (14-9 1/2) and Gary Trkula fifth (14-3 1/2) in the pole vault while Daniel Petkau finished third (44-3 1/2) and Brett Davis fourth (43-7) in the triple jump.

Troy Brooks was third (23-3 1/4) and Clark Lundquist sixth (22-6 1/2) in the long jump while Alex Zart finished fifth in the shot put (51-8 1/2).

For top track finishes, Eric Smits was third (1:56.25) in the 800-meter run while Andrew Rohlman was second (4:18.87) and Garrett Kerska third (4:18.92) in the mile run.  The Eagles' Aric Hoeschen placed third (22.28) and Alex Koenen sixth (22.62) in the 200-meter dash.  Koenen was also third in the (6.97) in the 60-meter dash while Brooks finished fifth (7.05).

In the 60-meter hurdles, Joe DeRosier placed third (8.39) and Luke Ackerson fourth (8.42).

Josh Kaul finished fifth (14:41.95) in the 5,000-meter run and Tyson Young was sixth (50.51) in the 400-meter dash.

The Eagles' were second (1:31.69) in the 4x200-meter dash and third (3:24.56) in the 4x400-meter dash.

UW-L returns to action Friday, February 10 with three meets.  The Eagles will split their squad and compete at the St. Mary's University (Minn.) Invitationatl; the UW-River Falls Multi Competition and the Iowa State University Classic.
