UW-Oshkosh 3, UW-La Crosse 1
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer squad fell 3-1 to UW-Oshkosh Thursday afternoon in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament Semifinal at Veterans Stadium. The Eagles drop to 10-6-2 while the Titans improve to 12-6-2 and advance to the WIAC Tournament Championship match Saturday, November 5.
UW-Oshkosh will play the winner of the UW-Stevens Point/UW-Whitewater match scheduled for Thursday night. With the win Thursday, the Titans will play in their fourth league championship match in school history and first since 2006.
UW-L will await word to see if it receives an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Championships. The national bracket will be announced Monday, November 7.
The Titans took a 1-0 lead Thursday as Kelsey Spaith scored her third goal of the season. She scored on a penalty kick after UW-L was called for a handball at 31:22.
UW-Oshkosh made it 2-0 at 37:48 as Kelsey Daulton notched her third goal of the year assisted by Amanda Leach. The Titans led 2-0 at halftime.
UW-L cut the lead to 2-1 at 51:23 as
Laura Sauer scored on a header after a pass from
Courtney Weber.
Jamie Ochsenwald also recorded an assist for the Eagles. It was Sauer's second goal of the year.
UW-Oshkosh quickly regained a two-goal lead as Chelsea Kierszh scored her fifth goal of the season at 55:21 with Kiley Hauck earning an assist.
The Eagles finished with 16 shots in the match, including eight on goal while the Titans totaled 21 shots with eight on goal.
Sagan Pizzingrilli recorded five saves for UW-L with Brittany Walder finishing with seven for UW-Oshkosh.
