UW-L Finishes Seventh; May Second in Triple Jump

Berea, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team finished in seventh-place Saturday at the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Championships. The championships were held at Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium at Baldwin-Wallace College. 

The Eagles totaled 30.0 team points. Illinois Wesleyan University won the women's title with 54.0 points. UW-Oshkosh was second (53.0) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology third (37.0). Wartburg College (Iowa) placed fourth (36.0) and Calvin College (Mich.) fifth (33.0). Williams College, Mass. was sixth (33.0) followed by UW-L (30.0), The College of New Jersey (27.0), the University of Chicago, Ill.  (26.0) and Methodist University, N.C. (21.0) to round-out the top-10. A total of 77 teams scored points. 

UW-L's Ashton May earned a pair of NCAA III All-America honors Saturday. She placed second in the triple jump (39-7 1/4) was a member of the Eagles' third-place 4x100-meter relay (46.55). Kailey Charlton, Ashton May, Maggie May and Laurel Beck made up the relay. The relay set a school record with its time of 46.55.

Ashton May finishes her career with 10 All-America awards, including seven outdoors. She earned her first career honor in the triple jump Saturday. May also placed second in the long jump Thursday. She was fourth in the long jump outdoor last season and was finishes with four career All-America awards in the 4x100-meter relay. Along with the third-place finish this season, UW-L was fifth in 2007 and 2009 and sixth in 2008.

May had three career indoor All-America awards, including a second-place finish in the long jump and third-place in the triple jump in 2010. She was sixth in the long jump in 2009.

"It was pretty exciting to set the school record today," said Ashton May. "It was a great way to finish of my college track and field career."

Charlton picked up her third career NCAA All-America honor Saturday as a member of the 4x100-meter relay while Beck earned her second All-America recognition and Maggie May her first. Charlton was on the Eagles' fifth-place 4x100-meter relay at the 2009 outdoor meet and sixth in the 55-meter dash at the 2010 indoor nationals. Beck was a member of UW-L's sixth-place 4x400-meter relay in the 2010 indoor meet.

Stephanie Perleberg was 10th in the 5,000-meter run Saturday (17:28.39). She earned All-America honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday after a third-place finish (10:32.64). It was her second career All-America accolade after winning the national title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last season.
