UW-L Finishes Third; Five Athletes Earn Honors

Berea, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team finished in third-place Saturday at the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Championships. The championships were held at Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium at Baldwin-Wallace College. 

The Eagles totaled 28.0 team points. North Central College (Ill.) took the team title with 53.0 points. Salisbury University (Md.) was second (36.0). 

Massachusetts Institute of Technology was fourth (27.0) with Wheaton College, Maine and Springfield College, Mass. tied for fifth (26.0). UW-Oshkosh was seventh (21.0), McMurry University, Texas eighth (20.5), UW-Stout ninth (20.0) and Monmouth College, Ill., Gustavus Adolphus College, Minn. and Amherst College, Mass. tied for 10th (18.0). A total of 85 teams scored points.

UW-L's Aric Hoeschen earned a pair of NCAA Division III All-America honors Saturday. He finished sixth in the 400-meter dash (47.87) and was a member of the Eagles' 4x400-meter relay which placed fouth overall (3:13.83). 

Paul Yerhot, Ryan Mendez, Tyson Young and Hoeschen ran on the relay. 

It is the first two career outdoor All-America honors for Hoeschen. He was a member of the Eagles' second-place 4x400-meter relay at the 2010 indoor nationals. 

Yerhot now has four career All-America recognitions while Mendez has three and Young one. Yerhot has earned three indoor awards. He was on the second-place 4x400-meter relay in 2010 and fifth-place 4x400-meter relay in 2009. Yerhot was also on the distance medley relay, which placed second in 2009. 

Mendez was on UW-L's sixth-place distance medley relay indoors in 2010 and fifth-place 4x400-meter relay indoors in 2009.

The Eagles' Isaac Vazquez picked up his second All-America award of the championships Saturday after a sixth-place finish in the triple jump (48-5 1/4). He placed seventh in the long jump (23-2 1/2) Thursday. 

Kellen McCrary was ninth in the triple jump (47-9) Saturday while Dave Stauder placed 10th in the high jump (6-8). McCrary finished second in the long jump (23-7 1/2) Thursday for his first career outdoor All-America award. He captured the long jump at the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.

Stauder ends his career with three All-America honors. He was fifth in the high jump at the 2009 outdoor nationals, fifth indoors in 2010 and eighth indoors at the 2008 indoor meet.
