Matt Mauseth of
Rochester, Minn. (Mayo) have been named to the 2010 CoSIDA/
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division Men's At-Large Team. Laurent was selected to the all-district first team while Mauseth was named to the second team. Laurent is now eligible for the Academic All-America Team, which will be announced June 8.
The academic all-district at-large team is comprised of all NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA student-athletes from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota and is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Eligible sports are fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Laurent, named to the 2009 CoSIDA/
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team, maintains a 3.94 grade point average while majoring in biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology.
He was voted the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Wrestler of the Year by the league coaches after winning his third consecutive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III crown at 285-pounds. Laurent became the third wrestler in school history to win multiple national championships and the second to win three titles.
Ryan Allen won the 285-pound crown in 2004, 2005 and 2006, while
Josh Chelf captured the 174-pound title in 2007 and 2008.
A four-time WIAC champion at 285 pounds, Laurent compiled a 33-3 record during the 2010 campaign. He became the fourth wrestler in conference history to secure four consecutive 285-pound crowns.
In his career, he amassed a 124-27 mark, including 50 wins by fall. The 124 victories rank seventh on the school's all-time chart. Laurent went 12-2 in four national tournament appearances.
Laurent was also named the 2010 WIAC Scholar-Athlete in wrestling. He was also selected to the 2008, 2009 and 2010 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-America Team.
Mauseth is a biomedical science major with a 3.48 grade point average. He earned his third career NCAA Division III All-America award at 149-pounds this season placing third with a 5-1 record. Mauseth won the national title in 2009 and placed sixth in 2008.
Named the 2009 WIAC Wrestler of the Year, Mauseth finished 30-4 overall this year. He is now 80-18 in his three-year career. He has been named to the NWCA Scholar All-America Team in 2009 and 2010.
Mauseth won his third straight 149-pound crown at the 2010 WIAC Championships, being the first wrestler in league history to capture three consecutive titles.
