Fanta, Running and Trocke Earn All-WIAC First Team Honors

Harazin Named Honorable Mention Recognition

Madison, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse sophomore third baseman/outfielder Jay Fanta of Viroqua (H.S.), freshman right-handed pitcher Mitch Running of Eau Claire (North) and junior second baseman Matt Trocke of Burnsville, Minn. (H.S.) have been selected to the 2010 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Baseball First Team in a vote by the league coaches.

Sophomore catcher Zach Harazin of Burnsville, Minn. (H.S.) was selected to the 2010 All-WIAC Honorable Mention Team while senior first baseman Lance Poppy of New London (H.S.) was named to the All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team for the second straight season.

It marks the second straight season Fanta has been named to the all-conference first team. Running, Trocke and Harazin earned their first career All-WIAC honor.

Fanta started all 40 games in 2010, leading UW-L in home runs (8) and RBI (35), total bases (83) and walks (25). His eight home runs are fifth in the WIAC while 25 walks are tied for fifth. Fanta hit .351 overall this season with 52 hits in 148 at-bats, ranking second on the team in hits and third in at-bats. He tied for second in runs scored (34) and tied for fourth in doubles (7).

Third on the team with 14 multi-hit games in 2010, Fanta had at least one hit in 32 of 40 contests overall. He finished the season with a 13-game hitting streak. Fanta was second for UW-L with eight multi-RBI games this year, including a career-high five RBI against UW-Platteville April 21. He finished 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double versus the Pioneers. Fanta tied his career-high with four hits against UW-Stout April 7 and St. Mary's University (Minn.) April 9. He also scored a career-high four runs versus UW-Stout.

Fanta has started all 78 games while at UW-L with a .368 career batting average. He has 14 career home runs, 25 doubles and 76 RBI while scoring 71 runs.

Running went 2-2 with a WIAC-leading 2.75 earned run average in 2010. He was second for UW-L in innings pitched (52.1) while finishing third in strikeouts (41). Running held opponents to a .260 batting average, ranking fifth in the conference.

He earned victories over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) April 5 and UW-Stevens Point May 1. Running went 8.0 innings in the win over the Pointers, allowing one earned run with seven strikeouts. He had a season-high nine strikeouts against UW-Whitewater April 17. Running made 10 appearances in 2010 with seven starts and one complete-game at UW-Superior April 25.

Trocke started all 40 games for the Eagles in 2010, hitting .374, which ranks fifth in the WIAC. He led UW-L in hits (58), runs (38) and doubles (11) this year while tying for the team lead in stolen bases (4). His 58 hits is tied for eighth in the conference. Trocke also ranked second in at-bats (155) and walks (15) for the Eagles while being fourth in home runs (4) and RBI (22).

A career .336 hitter at UW-L, Trocke has played in 78 games, including 69 starts. He led the Eagles with 16 multi-hit games in 2010, including at least one hit 32 of 40 games. He had a career-high 14-game hitting streak. Trocke tied his career-high with four hits against UW-Oshkosh May 9 and scored a career-high four runs versus UW-Stout April 7 and UW-Superior April 24. He had six multi-RBI games, including tying his career-high three against UW-Oshkosh.

Harazin started the first 29 games for UW-L this season, but missed the final 11 contests due to injury. He hit .362 overall, ranking eighth in the WIAC. His .629 slugging percentage is fifth in the league while his team-high four sacrifice flies is tied for third. Harazin was second on the team in home runs (7) and tied for second in RBI (28).

He led the Eagles with nine multi-RBI games, including a career-high four versus Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) March 19 and Augsburg College (Minn.) March 28. Harazin had at least one hit in 24 of 29 games this season with nine multi-hit contests.

Poppy missed the first seven games of the year with an injury, but started the final 32 contests. He hit .339 overall with two home runs, six doubles and 20 RBI. Poppy led UW-L with eight hit-by-pitches while recording a .993 fielding percentage. He had 10 multi-hit games this season, including tying his career-high with three hits at UW-Superior April 25 and UW-Stevens Point May 2.

Poppy had a career-high 13-game hitting streak during the season. He played in 116 career games at UW-L with 98 hits, 52 RBI and 43 runs scored.

UW-L finished 17-23 overall and 9-15 in the WIAC in 2010.
