UW-L Set to Compete in NCAA III Championships

La Crosse, Wis. - Eight members of the UW-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team and six members of the Eagles' men's squad will compete at the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships Wednesday-Saturday, March 17-20. The meet will be held in the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Beloit College (Wis.) and The College of Wooster (Ohio) are serving as the hosts of the national championships.

Action is scheduled to begin each day at 10 a.m. with preliminary events. The finals each day are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The women competitors who will represent UW-L at the championships are seniors Chelsea Hoff of Middleton (H.S.) and Brianna Peyer of Delavan (Delavan-Darien); juniors Katelyn Hartung of Madison (Memorial) and Rachel LaValley of Eau Claire (Memorial); sophomore Danielle Ellingson of Madison (Memorial) and freshmen Abby Diehl of Prairie du Sac (Sauk Prairie), Dayna Johnson of Waukesha (New Berlin West) and Taylor Smith of Rice Lake (H.S.).

Seniors Matt Diehl of Prairie du Sac (Sauk Prairie) and Benjamin Knutson of Lancaster (H.S.); junior Casey Borden of Brookfield (Central); sophomores Joel Knuesel of Oregon (H.S.) and Spencer Loch of Verona (Madison Memorial) and freshman Kevin Misener of Verona (H.S.) represent the men's squad.

The Eagles' women's squad finished eighth at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. UW-L finished with 125.0 team points while Kenyon College (Ohio) captured the national title with 560.0.

UW-L has recorded six finishes in the top-15 and 10 in the top-20. The Eagles placed a school-best fifth at the 2004 championships with 215.0 points. The 215.0 points was also a team record.

The men's squad finished in a tie for 55th-place at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships. UW-L recorded 3.0 team points while Kenyon College (Ohio) captured the national title with 604.0. UW-L finished a school-best 12th in 1992 with 87.0 points.

UW-L has yet to claim either a men's or women's individual NCAA champion.
