Wartburg College Select Results
Waverly, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team captured the Wartburg College Select Saturday night in Hoover Fieldhouse. The Eagles finished with 266 team points while Wartburg was second with 139, UW-Platteville third with 124 and the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) fourth with 105.
Zach Lee,
Tyson Young,
Terrence Thigpen,
Michael Marchese,
Bruce Schmitz and
Paul Moran won individual titles on the track for UW-L Saturday.
Lee captured the 55-meter dash (6.41) while Young took the 200-meter dash (49.80), Thigpen the 400-meter dash (49.80) and Marchese the 600-meter run (1:24.92). Lee and Thigpen provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships with their performances.
Schmitz won the mile run (4:17.32) and Moran the 5,000-meter run (14:59.13).
The Eagles'
Matt Gordy was second in the 55-meter dash (6.45) and also met provisional qualifying status.
Alex Rooker placed second in the 400-meter dash (50.20) while
Michael Olenek was second in the 600-meter run (1:27.41).
Connor Lonning finished second (15:00.52) and
Scott Hayden third (15:11.29) in the 5,000-meter run.
UW-L's
Scott Spexarth finished third in the 55-meter hurdles (7.93). The Eagles also finished third in the 4x400-meter relay (3:26.39).
In the field events,
Isaac Vazquez earned two individual titles, winning the long (22-1 3/4) and triple (46-10 3/4) jumps. He provisionally qualified for the national meet with his winning mark in the triple jump.
Dave Stauder and
Dave Pergande both provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Championships Saturday after winning their respective events. Stauder took the high jump (6-9 1/2) while Pergande won the pole vault (15-9). The Eagles'
Evan Zachman was third in the pole vault (14-3 1/4).
UW-L's
Andy Novak won the shot put (50-10 1/4).
Kellen McCrary was third in the long (21-8 1/4) and triple (44-8 3/4) jumps while
Ross Von Glahn finished second (50-6 1/4) and
Bill Warren was third (47-11 1/4) in the weight throw.
UW-L returns to action Friday, Feb. 12 at the St. Mary's (Minn.) Invitational starting at 2 p.m.
