Van Handel Leads UW-L in Win over UW-Oshkosh

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team raced out to a 19-4 lead and went on to record a 64-49 victory over UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 12-5 overall and 4-4 in the WIAC while the Titans fall to 6-11 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

UW-L never trailed in Wednesday's game, leading 9-0 with 16:39 left in the first half. The Titans cut the lead to 13-4, but the Eagles scored the next six points for a 19-4 advantage. UW-Oshkosh missed 14 of its first 15 shots from the field and finished at 23.8% (five-of-21) in the first half. The Eagles led 29-15 at halftime.

UW-Oshkosh could get no closer than 15 points in the second half and UW-L led by as many as 24 points with 7:20 remaining.

Stacie Van Handel led UW-L with 16 points off the bench, finishing seven-of-10 from the field. She was also two-of-three at the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds.

Danielle Frank recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds. She also had three blocks.

Dana Churchill finished with 13 points and five rebounds while Melissa Lang added 12 points.

UW-L shot 42.9% from the field, including 16.7% (two-of-12) from three-point range. The Eagles were eight-of-13 (61.5%) at the line.

Michelle Boeder led UW-Oshkosh with 11 points while Katie Kitzke recorded 10 points and five rebounds off the bench. The Titans shot 34.6% from the field, but missed all 10 of their three-point attempts. UW-Oshkosh was 13-of-16 (81.3%) at the free throw line.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Jan. 23 hosting UW-Eau Claire at 3:05 p.m.
