UW-River Falls Wins Fourth Straight over UW-La Crosse

Wade Guerin scored 19 points and grabbed 21 rebounds as the UW-River Falls men's basketball team earned a 83-75 victory over UW-La Crosse Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Falcons improve to 8-8 overall and 2-5 in the WIAC while the Eagles fell to 12-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference. It is the Falcons' fourth straight win over the Eagles.

UW-River Falls raced out to a 15-3 lead with 13:27 remaining before UW-L cut the lead to 27-23 with 5:45 left. The Falcons then went on a 13-5 run to lead 40-28. UW-River Falls led 40-30 at halftime.

UW-L, ranked 24th on d3hoops.com, trailed 50-35 with 15:26 left and 66-50 with 6:57 remaining. The Falcons led 68-55 with 3:52 left, but the Eagles cut the deficit to 69-62 with 2:30 remaining. UW-L could get no closer than five points the rest of the game.

UW-River Falls went 12-for-14 at the free throw line in the final 2:23.

Guerin was eight-of-14 from the field, including one-of-three from three-point range, and two-of-four at the line. Jontae Koonkae led UW-River Falls with 20 points and eight assists. He was seven-of-10 from the field, including two-of-two from three-point range, and four-of-six at the line.

Spencer Shelman added 14 points for the Falcons while Jake Voeltz had 11.

UW-River Falls shot 61.2% from the field, including 66.7% (four-of-six) from three-point range. The team shot 67.9% (19-of-28) at the line.

Tony Mane led UW-L with 23 points, finishing nine-of-28 from the field. He finished two-of-11 from three-point range and three-of-three at the line. Trevor Stratton finished with 14 points and Austin Scott had 12.

UW-L shot 38.9% from the field, including 33.3% (eight-of-24) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 61.1% (11-of-18) at the line.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 20 at UW-Oshkosh at 7:05 p.m.
