    Bill Terry became UW-L's most successful baseball coach in history when his 1979 team played in the NAIA World Series, placing fifth in the nation. As head baseball coach from 1969-1979, his teams earned seven conference championships and four district titles. The '79 squad also won the NAIA area championship. Terry was also an assistant football coach from 1961-67. Ten of his players signed professional contracts in either football or baseball. Along with coaching at UW-L, Terry assisted the university's student teaching program from 1968-1989.
