Athlete: 1962-1965
Coach 1969-1971
"All the way with P-M-A (Positive Mental Attitude.)" With that slogan, Bill Collar has helped his students and athletes earn honors, as well as himself. Collar nurtured his PMA during college as starting offensive tackle from 1962-65. His senior year, he was named team captain, all-conference and all-district.
After graduation, Collar began teaching and coaching at Antigo (Wis.) High School. In 1968, his frosh football squad went undefeated. The following year, he was offensive line coach for the varsity team. In 1972, Collar organized a lineman's camp on campus. Later that year he accepted a position as U.S. History teacher, head football coach and assistant track and field coach at Seymour (Wis.) High School.
He built a struggling football team there into a conference contender in four years. In 1985, his team won the state's Division III title and he was named Wisconsin High School Football Coach of the Year. As a track and field assistant, he was coached numerous conference and state champs and team titles. Collar has excelled in the classroom, too. He was named the state's Social Studies Teacher of the Year in 1977 and High School Teacher of the Year in 1988.
