Athlete: 1950-1954

    During college from 1950-54, Wes Mayer was one of the few student athletes who participated in a sport every season--cross country in fall, swimming in winter, and track in spring. He lettered in each sport every year. Mayer was captain of the 1953 cross country team and the 1954 swim team. He helped the 1950 cross country team run to a state title and the 1954 track team take conference honors.

    Mayer, named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1954, earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and general science and health in 1954. He holds a master's degree in physical education from UW-Madison.

     Mayer taught and coached at Plum City schools from 1954-56 before joining Janesville Public School staff in 1956, where he retired in 1991.
