Shirely Nannini
Athlete: 1972-1976
From fall 1972 to spring 1976, Shirley Nannini played on UW-L badminton and tennis teams that never lost a dual meet and captured state titles each year. The badminton teams finished in the top four nationally during her last three years of college. Nannini was recognized for her individual play, too. In state competition, she was the tennis doubles champ from 1974-76 and the second place finisher in badminton singles in 1976. In national events, she was on the fourth place doubles team in 1975 and the eighth place doubles team in 1976.
After a year at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond to coach and earn a masters, Nannini took her athletic skills to Evanston (Ill.) Township Schools in 1977. Since then her badminton teams have earned a 110-36-3 record, three conference championships and six sectional titles.
Along with teaching physical education at Evanston, she has directed athletic programs and the school's wellness center, and coached tennis. She has also supervised state badminton, swimming and diving competitions.
