Athlete: 1948-1952
Bob Lagerman was a premier gymnast at La Crosse, capturing 72 first place finishes, including several Northwest Championships. During his years in competition, he averaged 3.4 first places per meet.
In the 1949 Northwest championships in Minneapolis, he won victories on parallel bars, horizontal bar and the all-around. In the 1950 event, he took first on rings and in tumbling; in 1951 he excelled in all-around, parallel bars and tumbling. In each of his four years, he led the team to the Northwest team title under Coach Ernie Gershon.
In addition to these feats, he placed the 19th in all-around in a field of 94 competitors in the 1951 National AAU gymnastics meet in Detroit. In the 1951 Midwest open in Chicago, he placed 6th in both calisthenics and long horse and 9th in all-around.
After graduation from La Crosse, he became athletic director at Milwaukee Boys Club, then taught school at Walker Junior High School. He continued his education at Marquette where he began and coached its intercollegiate gymnastic program.
