A member of the Wisconsin State College La Crosse football team that played in the Cigar Bowl in 1953, Richard Mettlach went on to become an outsanding coach. After 30 years as head football coach of Forest Park High School in Crystal Fall, Mich., Mettlach has a career record of 207-60-5.
He coached in the Michigan High School All-Star game in 1985. Mettlach, who played both football and baseball for four years at La Crosse, was inducted into the Upper Peninsula Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1985.
