Particia Melby

Patty Melby helped get the cross country and track and field programs running at UW-L. In the pioneer days of women's athletics, Melby ran with the cross country team from 1971-1973 when it competed at a club level.
She was on the track team from '69-'72, which took the WWIAC title each of those years. During her collegiate running career, Melby remained undefeated in the state in the mile and half mile on her way setting numerous records. She placed fifth and seventh during her sophomore years at the Women's National Intercollegiate Track meet in 1972 and '73. Melby was captain of the track team her sophomore year and the cross country team for three years.
She began as the assistant women's track and field coach at UW-L in 1974, a position she held until 1977, and was its head cross country coach during the '76 and '77 seasons.
