Athlete: 1946-1949
Coaching and teaching at both the collegiate and high school level make up Owen Evans' 40-year career in education. Evans played football his last three years and was on the gridiron team that took the championship in 1949. That success in football continued in coaching.
He was head football coach at both Berlin and River Falls high schools where he compiled a 56-38-4 record and three conference championships. At the college level, he was head football coach at the University of Dubuque from 1962-1968 and an assistant at UW-Oshkosh in 1969.
In 1970, he moved to his hometown, Racine where he worked in the public school system until retiring in 1989. He was activities director at Racine Horlick high School from 1971-1986. From 1986 until retiring, Evans served as activities director at Racine Case High School. Evans has a master's from the University of Minnesota. He was inducted into Washington Park High School's Hall of Fame in June 1990.
