A member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC( Track & Field All-Time Team, Olson earned 16 career National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America honors. He won the national indoor title in the 400-meter dash in 2005 and 2006 after placing second in 2004. Olson was a member of three national indoor championship 4x400-meter relays (2003-05).

Earning 10 career NCAA Division III Outdoor All-America awards, Olson was on UWL's first-place 4x400-meter relay three seasons (2003-05). He was also on the second-place 4x400-meter relay (2006) and the fourth-place 4x100-meter relay (2003). Individually, Olson was second in the 400-meter dash three times (2004-06) and placed third (2005) and fourth (2006) in the 200-meter dash.

Olson won five WIAC Indoor titles, including a pair in the 200-meter dash (2005, 2006) and four 4x200-meter relays (2003-06). Named the 2006 WIAC Indoor Scholar-Athlete, Olson was second in the 200-meter dash two different occasions (2003, 2004). He won four individual titles at the outdoor conference championships, taking the 200 and 400-meter dash titles in 2005 and 2006. Olson was named the 2005 WIAC Outdoor Track Performer of the Meet. He was also on UWL's first-place 4x400-meter relay in 2003.

He recorded four other top-five finishes at the outdoor league championships, placing second in the 200 and 400-meter dash (2004), third in the 200 and fifth in the 100-meter dash (2003). Olson was a seven-time WIAC Athlete of the Week selection.

Olson was a member of seven NCAA Division III Championship teams, including four indoor (2003-06) and three outdoor (2003-04, 2006). The team placed second outdoors in 2005.  He was a member of eight conference championship teams (2003-06).

Named to the 2006 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America First Team, Olson earned his bachelor's degree in education-Broadfield science from UWL in 2007 and master's degree in education from UW-Stevens Point in 2019. A native of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, he was a four-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
