Athlete: 1929-1933
John Novak earned three letters each in tennis and basketball at La Crosse Teachers College in early 1930s. Co-Captain and one of the top scorers on the basketball team and number one player on the tennis team. Was basketball coach at Greenwood, Bangor and Eau Claire Senior.
He was the athletic director at Eau Claire Senior for 27 years. At Eau Claire Senior, Novak had eight basketball teams in the state tournament and his team in 1955 came away with the state championship. He was one of four coaches in the United States chosen to coach the North High School All-American basketball team in 1952. He was elected to the Wisconsin High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1981.
