John Mielke says being part of the UW-L basketball team that went 20-5 after being picked to finish in the bottom half of the conference standings was extra special his senior year. And so was being named Conference Player of the Year in 1980-81. Mielke lettered the final three seasons at La Crosse from 1977-81. He also took honorable mention for all-conference for the '79-80 season.
Mielke, who graduated in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in biology, serves as Dean of Students and head boys' basketball coach at Appleton East High School, where he has been on staff since October 2000.
