Athlete: 1968-1972
A sport each season kept John DeMerit busy during college. He competed and lettered in football and track during all four years and played basketball three years, lettering his junior year. Many of the track and football teams took conference titles. In football, he was frosh rookie of the year and captain his junior and senior years.
In track his junior year, he finished 12th nationally in the NAIA's national decathalon competition. On the basketball team, he was honorary captain his freshman year. After graduating in 1972, DeMerit began teaching physical education and coaching the Howard-Suamico (Wi) School District.
