Jodi Smiley was a three-sport athlete in the early 80s. She was All-American track and field in 1983 and '84, the year she earned national and conference championships and records in the javelin. In 1984, she also co-captained the team and was a scholar-athlete. In volleyball, she was named most-dedicated player in 1983.
In badminton she was a national doubles competitor in 1981 and vice president of the university's club team in 1984. Smiley earned a bachelor's in physical education in 1984.
