James A. Rose
Athlete: 1961-1965

Athletics have been important to Jim Rose all his life. At Eleva-Strum (Wis.) Central High School, he became a four-time letter winner in each of the sports he played--basketball, baseball, football and track. Rose continued that athleticism at La Crosse.
He lettered in football form 1961-64 and earned numerous district, conference and regional honors all four years, including All-American and team captain his senior year. Rose played basketball in 1961-62 and received the James Stern Top Freshman Award.
He was on the track team from '62-64, lettering all three years. The '65 graduate took his success on the gridiron to coach and teach in Gillet, Wis., for two years and Mondovi, Wis., for 14 years. His overall football coaching record, 86-41-1, includes consecutive Middle Border Conference championships ('76-80) and a state playoff appearance in 1976.
