Hans Schmidt

Selected to the WIAC All-Time Track & Field Team, Hans Schmidt won five NCAA Division III titles in the pole vault at UWL.  He captured the indoor national championship in 2003 and 2004 and won the outdoor crown in 2001, 2003 and 2004.  Schmidt also earned NCAA III All-America honors with a second-place finish at the 2001 championships. 

He won five WIAC championships, including three indoor (2001, 2003, 2004) and two outdoor (2003, 2004). Schmidt was voted the 2001 WIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet at the conclusion of the championships. He owns the UWL record for indoor and outdoor pole vault.  Schmidt set the school and WIAC indoor record with a mark of 18-1 at the 2004 NCAA Division III Championships.  His mark of 17-11 at the 2004 Mt. SAC Relays is also the school and conference outdoor record. He owns the UWL Fieldhouse record with a mark of 17-5 at the 2003 UWL Open. 

Schmidt was a five-time WIAC Field Athlete of the Week selection, including three indoor and two outdoor. 

He was a member of eight NCAA Division III Championship teams as the Eagles swept the indoor and outdoor titles in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.  Schmidt was on seven WIAC title squads, including three indoor (2002, 2003, 2004) and four outdoor (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004). 

A native of Park Falls, Wisconsin, Schmidt earned his bachelor's degree from UWL in 2004 in elementary/middle level education.  He earned his master's degree in education (principal's licensure) from Viterbo (Wis.) in 2015.
