Grady Steensrud
Athlete: 1963-1967
For Grady Steensrud, college athletics centered around Memorial Field--the football field in fall and the track in spring. Steensrud was on the '67 championship track squad and was captain of the track team and a co-captain of the football squad. He established a conference record in the pole vault and set records in football---most yards rushing as a quarterback and most punts in a game.
After graduating, Steensrud taught in West Bend, Wis., before entering the military. While in the Army, he completed 1,283 freefall parachute jumps with the Golden Knights, a U.S. Army parachute team. He performed demonstration jumps throughout the United States and competed internationally.
Out of the service in 1971, he returned to school at UW-Stout for a degree in counseling. He also coached football and golf there. In 1972, Steensrud began his counseling career which has taken him throughout the country.
