Edward Sacharski heads three generations of family member who attended UW-La Crosse. He graduated in 1938 from what was then La Crosse State Teachers College. His wife, Esther, earned a degree there in 1939, followed by their son Tom, daughter Jane and their spouses. Tom's son Scott enrolled at UW-La Crosse in the fall of 1984. A retired teacher, coach, counselor and administrator, Sacharski was also an officer in the Navy. While attending La Crosse State Teachers College, he earned four letters in basketball and one in football. In basketball he was recognized as an outsanding rebounder and defensive player.
He was a captain one year, co-captain another year, a member of the All-Wisconsin State University Conference squad and played on two conference championship teams in 1935-36 and 193-37. In football, Sacharski was a member of the 1937 WSUC championship team.
Besides his athletic interests, he served as treasurer and president of the Letterman's Club and Beta Sigma Chi Fraternity. He taught social studies and mathematics at Oshkosh State Teachers College, Elkhorn High School and West Allis Public Schools. He coached football, basketball, track, volleyball and swimming during 30 of his 40 years as a teacher. his administrative assignments included athletic director, assistant principal and principal. He also is a member of the L-Club.
