Athlete 1985-1988

Earl Novotney ran to success through college in the mid 1980s. He was captain of the university's first men's track and field team to win back-to-back national championships in winter and spring, 1988--a year after he was on the indoor team that captured the first men's track and field national title.

During his four years, he set nine school records and three conference records. He was All-American all four years and earned most-valuable player status as a freshman and sophomore. Novotney, '89, majored in physical education. Throughout college, he was involved in numerous student fund raisers.
