Chester "Chet" A. Wangerin
Athlete: 1925-1928

Chet Wangerin earned Whitefish Bay recognition in Wisconsin high school track and field competition from the late '30s to the early '60s. Wangerin led his boys track teams form the Milwaukee suburb to 16 consecutive class B championships beginning in 1937. His teams also took the runner-up spots for two years before that streak and one year after it. His squads also captured 15 Suburban Conference outdoor championships, two indoor titles and 13 suburban relay meets. Wangerin spent his entire teaching career at Whitefish Bay, from 1931-1963. Along with coaching track and field, he coached volleyball and freshman football. Wangerin earned three degrees from Uw-L in '23, '24 and '29. Along with laying groundwork for the future on the track team while at La Crosse, he also participated in gymnastics and sang in the choir.
