Bill Hehli earned six All-WIAC honors in tennis from 1990-94 while qualifying for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament in 1991. He was a nationally ranked player at the NCAA Division III level in 1993-94.
Currently in his 23rd year as head coach of the UWL men's and women's teams, Hehli also serves as assistant media relations director at the university.
In 22 years as the men's coach, Hehli has led the team to a 295-171 (.633) dual match record. Several players have been individually ranked nationally and in the Midwest under Hehli. UWL finished 21-3 in 2015, setting a single-season school record for victories. The Eagles had an 18-match winning streak during the season while finishing 13th in the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region rankings.
Hehli has led the women's squad to a winning record in each of his first 22 seasons as head coach while being ranked in the NCAA Division III Midwest Region the past 19 years. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament Second Round in 2007. UWL captured the 2003, 2005, and 2006 WIAC Women's Championship under Hehli, who has been named the WIAC Coach of the Year three times (2001, 2005, 2012). The Eagles set a single-season school record for dual wins in 2010-11 and 2011-12, finishing 21-5 each year.
Entering the 2017-18 season, Hehli had compiled a career dual record of 640-281 (.695) at UWL, including 345-110 (.758) with the women's team and 295-171 (.633) with the men's squad.
He earned his bachelor's degree from UWL in mass communications in 1995 and his master's in sports administration in 1999.
