She took her athletics interest to the Academy of the New Church (where she graduated in 1969) to begin a sports program there in 1981. She taught at the academy until 1989 when she started teaching at the University School of Milwaukee. After a year there, she moved to Jenkintown, Pa., to teach at Abington Friends school.
She also coaches field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse and has introduced the concept of getting students to reach their personal best and obtain an athletic work ethic. Along with playing on a community field hockey team for women, Connolly has been involved in rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking and backpacking.
