Barry L Schockmel
Athlete: 1963-1967
Coach 1969-
For more than three decades, UW-L athletics has influenced Barry Schockmel. As a student from 1963-67, Schockmel competed in gymnastics two years, track and field three yers, and football four years. He earned letters in track football. Upon returning to campus in 1969, he began coaching swimming until he took over diving in 1975, coaching the 1989 NAIA women's national three-meter champion.
He has coached champions on the gridiron, too. As defensive backs coach, he helped football teams bring home national trophies in 1985, 1992 and 1995. Schockmel also served as a volunteer track coach from 1969-1975.
